Mark Bateman is seeking another term on Brighton council, bringing more than two decades of professional experience in human resources and four years of municipal council experience. A Brighton resident for more than 30 years, including two decades in rural Brighton, Bateman says he wants to continue listening to residents and working to address the municipality’s needs.
Priorities and Experience
Bateman has spent the past four years as a planning communication officer for a 200-unit affordable rental project. He has also remained active in the community through coaching hockey, soccer, baseball and other activities, including serving as vice-president and president of Brighton Minor Hockey. For four years, he has also worked with the NHL Alumni in support of Special Olympics Ontario.
Bateman says affordability and ensuring residents receive value for their tax dollars are key priorities. He wants municipal revenues directed strategically toward essential services while pursuing sustainable growth that preserves Brighton’s unique identity.
He says he will work to ensure rural residents, farmers, urban residents and youth are heard and treated with respect. He also intends to work with council to advocate to provincial and federal governments on issues that fall under their responsibilities.
Why Brighton
Bateman says Brighton’s combination of urban, rural and agricultural communities is one of its defining characteristics. He wants to help preserve that balance while supporting responsible growth and ensuring all residents have a voice.
