Jeff Wheeldon has lived in Brighton for a decade and has served on municipal council since 2022. Married with two children, Wheeldon holds a Master of Arts degree and has professional experience spanning higher education, real estate and planning, systems thinking, advocacy and community development. He says his approach to public service is grounded in collaboration, engagement and long-term planning.
Priorities and Experience
During his current term, Wheeldon completed a Diploma in Municipal Administration to strengthen his effectiveness as a councillor. He co-founded the Northumberland Inter-Municipal Task Force on Housing and Homelessness and chaired it during its first year. He has also chaired several Brighton committees and currently serves as vice-chair of the Lower Trent Conservation Authority.
Wheeldon says implementing Brighton’s Integrated Community Sustainability Plan and advancing the land-banking initiative will be major priorities. He also wants to improve affordability, community resilience and quality of life while addressing Brighton’s infrastructure gap. He says doing so will require difficult local decisions as well as seeking financial support from other levels of government.
Why Brighton
Wheeldon says Brighton’s future depends not only on infrastructure and municipal planning, but also on maintaining a strong connection between council and residents. He wants communication and meaningful public engagement to remain priorities as the community navigates growth and change.
