The Simcoe Curling Club is inviting the community to hit the ice and give curling a try this Halloween.
The club is holding a free open house October 31 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Building Five on the Norfolk County Fairgrounds. Visitors can throw their first rock, learn about the sport or reconnect with curling after time away.
Craig Thompson, draw chair and past president, says the goal is to make the sport accessible to everyone.
The club held a successful open house last season, bringing roughly 50 people onto the ice. This year, Thompson says they wanted to hold the event before league play begins.
Curling is also more accessible than some newcomers may realize, with delivery sticks and other equipment available for those with mobility or balance concerns.
The club has called Simcoe home for many years and offers youth programs, Learn to Curl and several leagues.
All equipment will be provided during the open house. Visitors only need to bring clean indoor shoes.
