The Royal Canadian Legion’s National Poppy Campaign officially begins tomorrow, October 24, marking the first year of its new permanent launch date.
Previously, the campaign began on the last Friday of October. The Legion says using October 24 each year will provide more consistency for branches and communities across Canada.
Canadians can pick up biodegradable poppies at Legion branches and thousands of participating locations. Donations can also be made online, while more than 2,000 RBC “Pay Tribute” boxes allow people to donate using tap-enabled payment.
Close to $20 million is donated to the Poppy Fund each year. Money raised locally stays local and supports veterans and their families through assistance, services and other approved programs.
The campaign continues through Remembrance Day on November 11, when Canadians are encouraged to observe two minutes of silence.
