Every ballot mattered in Norfolk County’s Ward 4 race, where the complete reported results show an exact tie between Jeni Lambert and incumbent Chris Van Paassen.
Both candidates received 858 votes, each accounting for 40.36 per cent of ballots cast in the three-candidate contest.
Drew Hemsley finished with 410 votes, or 19.29 per cent.
With all results reported, there is no outright winner. It remains unclear what the next steps will be to resolve the tie, and our newsroom is awaiting clarification from Norfolk County.
The result offers a striking reminder of the importance of casting a ballot: a single additional vote for either leading candidate would have separated them.
During the campaign, Lambert and Van Paassen discussed responsible growth, protecting farmland, supporting businesses and maintaining rural recreation facilities.
Lambert emphasized development within existing urban boundaries, attracting industry and improving support for local businesses. Van Paassen focused on commercial and industrial growth, particularly food processing and value-added agriculture.
We will provide an update when more information about the next steps becomes available.
